There are two paths that are always open to a man, the path of Shreya which allows an individual to achieve his ultimate goal, and the path of Preya(pleasures) following which an individual always suffers. Wise ones always choose the path of Shreya.

The human body is like a chariot with the intellect as the chariot driver.  The soul is the passenger, the horses are the sense organs and objects of the senses are the roads on which the horses travel.  The rope (bridle) is the mind.  An unrestrained intellect is caught up in the cycle of birth and death, whereas a restrained intellect which can control the horses gains freedom from the cycle of rebirth and death.
