Finding Fault in Others

Published: Nov 23, 2024

While travelling on a spiritual path we should avoid seeing faults in others.  Our carping nature is a fertile breeding ground for faults. You only make your own mind more impure, unhealthy, and vitiated, and the person concerned is not rendered faultless anyway.  Seeing faults is the surest way to foster those faults within yourself. For example, if you emptied someone else's dirt over yourself, you would only become dirtier wouldn't you-both externally and internally.  Similarly, engaging your mind in petty inspections of others only results in your mind becoming dirtier. Moreover, fault-finding increases pride, and we already are in the grip of egotism which binds us to the cycle of birth and death.
