Was there ever a time in your life when you felt very small; when you thought yourself to be extremely insignificant?  When did you feel this way?  Was it when your teacher told you that you would not amount to anything?  Was it when the bully in your class pushed you to the ground and told you that no one liked you?  Perhaps it was when your coworker declared in front of everyone in the office meeting that your ideas always miss the mark.

Have you ever belittled anyone?  Perhaps you have.  Did you ever belittle your spouse for gaining too much weight, or for not earning enough money?  Have you ever made your child feel that she has disappointed you time and again?  Have you ever laughed at someone for the way he dressed?  Did you ever make fun of someone's accent?

When school kids were shown photos of a politician and asked what they thought of him, many said that he was not 'nice.'  Why did they say this?  Because they had heard him belittling his opponents.  When he referred to someone as being 'crooked' and another as being 'a nothing,' even kindergarten children understood that he was trying to make his opponents feel very small and unworthy, not only in the eyes of the public but also in their own eyes.

Do not believe the bully.  Do not ever believe that you are any less than the other person.  There is no one else in the world quite like you.  True; you are not perfect.  However, it is also true that you are an individual of many virtues.
