Thousands of people are donating 20 minutes of their time today and making the city of Toronto a cleaner place. Citizens are picking up litter around their workplace, school, park or neighborhood. The campaign is called the ‘twenty minute makeover.’ I think the idea is so good that it should not be restricted to cleaning a city; it should extend to a ‘twenty minute makeover’ for the body and the mind. In fact, it is even better to do this makeover on a daily basis.
There are many works we all avoid doing because they take up too much of our time. However, twenty minutes is definitely manageable. You would be astonished to see how much you can accomplish within a week by just devoting twenty minutes of your time to it every day.

Spend twenty minutes reading a good book and thinking good thoughts. Devote just twenty minutes to some physical activity, such as climbing stairs, walking around the block, playing ball, jogging in the park or exercising in your room. It has been proven that even a little bit of activity boosts not only physical but also mental health. You may say that you don’t need more activity.  In that case, you need to relax. You may not have one hour to spare, but what about 1/3rd of an hour? Spend twenty minutes in deep breathing with eyes closed. You will feel extremely refreshed.

It is also a fact that when we put a smile on someone else’s face, we too become gratified. Spend just twenty minutes to do something nice for a friend or family member. It doesn’t have to be a big thing. It can be as simple as making a phone call or sending an email to keep in touch.

Twenty minutes can make a lot of difference.
